Sweet cherries, vanilla, and subtle tobacco on the nose. Layers of fresh fruit are complemented by savoury notes on the palate. This is a rich, complex wine with silky tannins and a lingering finish.
Pinotage – Swartland; Leeuwenkuil
Carignan – Wellington, 45 year-old vines
Tempranillo & Durif – Franschhoek
Grenache - Leeuwenkuil
Harvest date: Pinotage – end Jan 2018; Carignan – early March; Tempranillo & Durif – mid-March; Grenache – various.
Fermentation: Mostly in small, open fermenters, regular punch downs.
Maturation: Carignan – flex cubes, French oak staves (with toasting for Rhone varietals); Durif – 100% new oak barrels; Tempranillo – mixed age oak barrels; Grenache - older oak barrels.
